RESEARCH INTERESTS

The research interests of my group (Nanophotonics Research Group) lie in the area of nanophotonics. Compared to the revolution experienced in the electronics field, there is no such a huge developement in the photonics area. Main drawbacks of the photonics integrated circuits are the large foot-print of the photonic devices and expensive technology. In the past, guiding and confining of photon depends heavily on the low-index confinement only (total internal reflection). Manipulating the flow of light with the idea of photonic crystals brought the realization of the minuaritization of the photonic circuits. Scaling down the size of the photonic circuits bring the performance improvements and cost reduction into life.Below you can find the idea of photonic crystals and their technological significance.


The inherit advantages cultivating the information with nanometer scale photonic materials are the high-speed, high-bandwidth, low cross-talk capabilities. One should keep in mind that electronic devices face with the interconnection bottleneck operating above 10 GHz.Even though two microprocessors can operate at high speeds (compared to photons this speed is low) the communication between them limited. With the aferomentioned motivations in mind, we perform research proposing novel solutions to address the problems.
